MODULE 3
In a research project conducted between March and October 2022 in southern European countries, the concept of rural tourism and its variations across different countries were explored. The project aimed to understand the sector’s development and identify the needs of professionals involved. The research involved a literature review and fieldwork, including interviews with professionals and stakeholders. Common needs were categorized into six groups: collaboration, communication, entrepreneurial and management skills, environmental and cultural skills, innovation skills, and hospitality skills. The urgency of these needs varied across countries, with different priorities in each. Collaboration skills emerged as a primary area requiring attention. Additionally, the research indicated that professionals in rural tourism possess local knowledge and are adept at using social media, but need to enhance their overall entrepreneurial and professional skills. The focus should be on nurturing collaboration, followed by developing entrepreneurial, innovation, and professional skills, with communication and cultural skills being of lesser urgency. The research suggests the importance of supporting professionals in understanding their own business, diversifying their offerings, acquiring new skills, and fostering communication and collaboration within a solid network of local professionals. The next step involves professionals conducting self-assessments to identify areas of need and seeking solutions through training programs, associations, and educational institutions.
